Digital Media and Experiential Learning

Digital media can be utilized in classrooms in many various ways.  They can be used to connect people from afar, share experiences visually, and bring us to other worlds around the globe and beyond.

Where I teach, digital media is utilized, and not utilized, a little differently than other classrooms.  We use video content in presentations like many classrooms, often drawing from NASA content given we are affiliated with NASA.  Some programs are virtual so we conduct lessons with students from other cities and countries.

An interesting extension of digital media we use are images from telescopes and satellites, especially the James Webb and the Hubble.  Since we are a space exploration center, images from those telescopes are important for us to learn about our universe... and beyond!  For the latest images from James Webb Telescope, click here.

Since we also talk about the Earth and weather in some programs, we often talk about satellites that are orbiting the Earth.  Some are taking measurements of various aspects of Earth, some are taking images, and all of that information is useful.  We even use software to track all the satellites and space junk.

So we have some interesting uses for digital media.  It all helps us understand our little blue marble in space we call Earth.
